What Is Mindset Coaching?

"Leadership is a mindset that shifts from being a victim to creating results. Any one of us can demonstrate leadership in our work and within our lives." - Robin S. Sharma

Why Is Mindset Important?

Mindset is a belief that directs the way we handle situations. This affects how we sort out what is going on around us, and how we make decisions.

Our mindsets not only help us to spot opportunities, but they can also trap us in self-defeating cycles. Some of these cycles can lead to depression, anxiety, and addictions.

This ultimately can lead people to avoid challenges or falter when facing them, while others thrive and further their potential.

Who Coined Mindset?

Carol Dweck, a Stanford Universe Psychologist popularized the concept of mindset. What she realized was there were contrasting beliefs about where our abilities come from (Fixed vs Growth mindsets). Furthermore, she also identified the underlying reason for why some people are successful, and why others unknowingly or knowingly choose not to be.

Fixed  VS. Growth Mindset

Carol Dweck identified two mindsets. If we have a fixed mindset, then our ability is innate, therefore our level of achievement is dependent on our ability. To them, if we don't succeed, it is because we weren't capable in the beginning.

In contrast, if we have a growth mindset then we expect that our effort is greater than our ability, and that we can alway improve our ability.  To them, our failures are opportunities, and they show us what we need to work on.

  • Fixed mindset people measure themselves by their failures, and they are constantly looking for reassurance into the story they have told themselves.

  • People with a growth mindset often show perseverance, and are not scared to take risks. when they’ve made an error, they become more motivated to work harder.

Without Mindset Coaching?

A coach is an observer and a reflection for clients. Without a coach, clients will have to spend countless hours hoping that their actions will bear sustainable fruit. Additionally, clients who aren't made aware of negative habits, will keep themselves in a self-fulfilling cycle.

This is evermore prevalent with school-aged students who may have difficulty with their social skills, organization, anxiety, and attention.
